Bibliography, Databases, and Timelines
December 18, 2025
Since 2000, the survivors have created a social movement comprising hundreds of organizations representing diverse social and political currents, thousands of activists, and a wide range of missions and objectives. This page includes links to:
- Bibliography (60-page)
- Timeline of organizations’ founding
- Timeline of historic events
- PowerPoint presentation, circa 2021, the Survivors Movement
1. Bibliography
The 600 references in the Bibliography served as a background for my book, Stand Up Speak Up – How Survivors Created a Movement to End Sexual Abuse. These references are in addition to the hundreds of citations and footnotes in the book.

2. Timeline of Survivor Organizations’ Founding
Survivor organizations formed quickly after 2000. Two organizations, SNAP (1988) and RAINN (1994), existed before the national explosion of media coverage of The Boston Globe Spotlight Series in 2002 and the MeToo movement tweet of 2017. This timeline is a work in progress. I invite and welcome additions and amendments to this list.

3. The Movement Arises — Timeline of Historical Events
This database of milestones in the history of sexual violence in the United States from 1825 to 2021. It documents the founding dates of more than 100 survivor-led organizations, based on the Survivor Movement Organizes spreadsheet posted on https://standupspeakup.org/survivors-movement-emerges/. This database, still a work in progress, assembles the timeline of our Movement for the last twenty-five years.
